Natan

For a little designer like me, having the opportunity to spend a few hours at the heart of any couture atelier is always considered a privilege. So when I was offered to visit the atelier of the Belgian couture house NATAN I was overwhelmed! Not only was I going to see a collection in the making but I was also going to meet the talented Edouard Vermeulen, designer for the house of Natan since 1984! The house is well known for its it’s classic and timeless cuts, its luxurious fabrics, rich colors, but as well as for dressing the royal families of Belgium, Switzerland, Holland, Denmark and Luxembourg.

I started my journey by the sewing studio where I decided to make myself as little as a mouse to observe the “petites mains” working the fabrics from their fairy hands. I then followed Monsieur Vermeulen during one of his fitting and watched him giving direction to one of the seamstress… During this little time I found him to be a very elegant, dedicated and kind man with a witty sense of humor.

I then followed my little reportage into the salon, where I imagined myself selecting some of the most refined pieces of the collection while laying comfortably on the long chair with a drink in my hand… And I finished my visit with the boutique… After everything I had seen, you can imagine that I was definitely looking at the clothes with a different eye than when I came in!

Thanks again to Laetitia for this opportunity, to Hilde for the warm reception, to Monsieur Veurmeulen for his time and to all the lovely ladies from the atelier for letting me spy on them!
