Yesterday, thanks to my friend Ingrid Chua from the Bag Hag Diaries, I had the opportunity to meet the one and only Roberto Cavalli to preview his upcoming Just Cavalli winter collection!
As it can sometimes be hard to see the clothes in details during a show, a preview gives you the opportunity to see them up close, to touch them and even try them before they appear on the runaway.
It is as well the occasion to get a glimpse of the last minute preparations that go on in a studio. Such as the styling and the models fittings, where they allocate the right accessories and jewels to each silhouette before taking them in pictures for their final rundown and boards.
True to the essence of Just Cavalli, the collection, was colorful, young and of course full of prints! It was mixing silks, beautiful damasks, jacquard and leathers which were later transformed with the help of quilting and pleating. Regarding the accessories, I fell in love with the Masai inspired gold jewelry.
As for the man himself, what can I say, he might be at the head of an empire but Roberto Cavalli is a real sweetheart and more importantly, incredibly funny!
After the viewing, we were invited for an “Alice in Wonderland” like tea party in the room next door, where, on the recommendation of Roberto, we got to try some delicious meringues which were, as they told me, part of the Cavalli tradition. No need to say that I didn’t stop at the meringues…
