La Parisienne…

There has always been, and will always be something about the french girls… That it’d be the way they hold their cigarettes, their attitude or the way they master the art of looking effortlessly elegant. You will always be able to recognize a Parisian from the rest of crowd…

The “Parisiennes” are not only known for their minimalist and monochrome wardrobe, but also for their ability to ignore the trends while never looking out of tune… This being said, I love the way this lovely Frenchie revamped her classic black and white outfit with this season’s “must have”, sporting an emerald green coat and a beaded plastron necklace…

My favorite accessory?

Her smile..!

Video inspirations… #4

Today I thought I would share with you some of the video that caught my attention recently…

First, the new advert for Prada by Steven Meisel… Some of you might have already seen it but I thought it was worth re-sharing. I really like the way Meisel recreated the sixties mood and gave it a modern twist with those clever music switches, not to mention that the photography is just sublime…!

Meeting Joan Smalls…

Don’t you think she’s mesmerizing? I almost got hypnotized when I took this picture of the absolutely gorgeous Joan Smalls. It was just after the Blumarine show in Milan and the place was totally crowded which made it almost impossible to take full body shots… But then again, sometime you don’t need that much. Everything you need to know about Joan is right there, in her eyes…

The jacket…

In just three days of interval I had the opportunity to photograph the same Roberto Cavalli blazer jacket on two very different women. I thought it would be interesting to put the two pictures together as although the jackets are the same, the two looks came out completely diverse. That is I guess one of the thing I find the most interesting about fashion, the way people interpret it to make it their own. As we all know, there are countless ways to wear our clothes so it is always nice to see this rule applied in real life…

The first image was taken last, outside the Cavalli show, not because I had seen the jacket before but just because I found this girl very stylish with her sequined mini skirt and also as I really liked her attitude… And her shoes! She decided to wear the jacket on it’s own, and although they are a few different prints going on in this outfit, I think she made it work quite well…!

In the picture below, the lovely Ingrid Chua, from The Bag Hag Diaries is wearing the complete Cavalli suit and accessorized it with a mini orange Hermès… Even if sometimes too much of Cavalli can kill the Cavalli, I think she also made it work and looks very elegant…

What about you… Which look do you prefer?

Pastel…

If there was an opportunity to visit someone’s wardrobe, be certain that I would get in line to investigate the one of Eleonora! Based solely on my imagination, it would be filled with amazing pieces and colorful fabrics all more beautiful than the others…

What I love about her, is that she never looks the same and yet always looks like herself… Do you know what I mean…? Boyish, retro, elegant or quirky, she always manages to make any style, any trend, her very own. In fact it is not the first time I took her picture and it will probably not be the last as I am always looking forward to see what she’ll be wearing next…

Maria…

The first time I met Maria Kolosova, was last September in Milan… I took a shot of her while she was waiting outside a show, and that picture became one of my favorite among all the ones I posted on the blog…

Therefor I was really happy to see her again in February, especially as this time we got to spend some moments together and chat … As I already told you  last time, I just love her style which I find extremely cute and elegant. And it is not only an appearance as she is really adorable… She has a blog and an upcoming fashion line made of exquisite pieces which are an extension of her own wardrobe. As a matter of fact she was wearing one of her own skirt…

Courrèges…

Talking about Valentina in my last post reminded me of where I first met her…

It was during the fashion week at the Courrèges launch party organized by Negri Firman in the Milanese concept store: 10 Corso Como. I was there working as the event photographer and so I decided to share with you some of the pictures I took that day.

For those of you who don’t know about it, Courrèges was an Haute Couture house created  in 1961 by the french designer of the same name, André Courrèges. The label was synonymous of geometric and futuristic designs mainly declined in a palette of primary colors… But if you had to remember him for one thing only, it would have to be for the creation of the mini skirt..! Although there was a little controversy as to who really did invented the mini, André or the british designer Mary Quant? Courrèges is the one we have to thank for below the English Channel…

Despite still being in activity, the brand slowly faded away during the 80s and it was only in 2011, fifty years after it’s creation that the brand was brought back into life when it was bought by two very adventurous creatives, who surprisingly never worked into fashion before, Jacques Bungert and Frédéric Torloting… Judging by what I have see so far… They know just the right amount..!

The “it” dog…

(Above: Valentina Siragusa)

Contrary to what you might think, the coolest accessory from this last fashion week wasn’t a pair of shoes* nor a bag or even a hat… It was a dog..!

I find that the great thing with dogs is that they fit any outfit, any season and any style… They are always a match and whichever mood they are in, they make a random picture look so much more amusing..! On the other side, unlike clothing, they have a mind of their own and they wouldn’t simply obey to you, photographers or anyone really, just to make a good picture. Which in the end is fine as it is totally part of their charms…

So, which one of these little dogs is your favorite?

Welcome to the new site!

I have just moved my blog to the WordPress platform..!

What does it mean?

That you have just been redirected to the new site and that the old address and blog are no longer accesible via Blogger…

That is why you should update your links and/or Rss readers with this new blog address.

So technically:

Delete the following: http://valentineavoh.blogspot.com/

And replace it with the new address:

[hr_caption]blog.valentineavoh.com[/hr_caption]

For your Rss Feed:

Even if you already changed the address before, the Rss one will not be active anymore as was subject to blogger’s format so please insert the following to receive my future posts:

[hr_caption]blog.valentineavoh.com/feed[/hr_caption]

So… What to do now?:

Go to the home page and have a look at the new blog layout…

I am doing this by myself so it is not completely finished as I still have a lot of posts to update and things to tweak here and there but I tried to maintain some of the features of the previous one to avoid any confusion.

Still they are a few thing that changed..!

One of the things that will be new is that I will now be able to answer you comments directly. Which might seems little but I wanted to have the opportunity to create a dialogue with all of you guys. And the cool thing is that you will also be noticed by mail when your comments have been answered by me or someone else which will make it easier to keep track of our little chats…

Anyway let me know what you think about the new site…

Or if there is any bugs or problem occurring in your browser…

So I hope to keep you all with me for the rest of my blogging adventures 😉

This would be the perfect moment to THANK YOU ALL for following my blog! I am really happy to have you as loyal readers and to have you commenting and reacting to what is being said here…

So, Many Many Thanks!!!!

Valentine

Allo Milano…?

[spacer]

During Milan fashion week, one has to be blind not to note the amount of people who are on the phone, that it’d be in or out of the shows…

One of the most common reason to get your phone out after a show is to call… your driver. You see, between the models, the editors, the somebodies and the nobodies, everyone has his own driver (me? I had my bike…) and everyone needs to find him asap after a show ends to drive away to their next destination. Most of the times it is the models…

You also have the editors and buyers calling their offices, or friends to give them a real time update on the collections, the shows, the make up, the celebrities, the “guess who ?” and the “guess what ?”…

Then every one is, at least once, calling someone they were suppose to meet but cannot find between the crowd, the photographers and the cars…

Not to mention the Tweets, the texts, Instagrams, Facebook updates and all…

Well, I have to say that if it wasn’t for my phone and Google maps, I would have been lost most of the time!
