Starting My Wedding Dress Line!

Today is a big day for me as I can finally show you one of the first dress of my upcoming made to measure wedding dress line!!!

As you can imagine, this project is very important to me and very close to my heart. I studied fashion design and always nourished the dream of becoming a fashion designer. The thing is that it took me a little while to know exactly what I really wanted to do, what part did I wanted to play… Working for different designers such as Alexander McQueen and Alexis Mabille, introduced me to a world of high craftsmanship, details and uniqueness which helped me to understand that I wanted to work toward a more Haute-Couture approach. But things were still a little unclear for me, as let’s be honest, it has become extremely hard to make a living out of Haute-Couture only.

Mademoiselle C

Last night, before going to bed, I watched the first 5 minutes of a very anticipated documentary… Mademoiselle C. “C” as in Carine Roitfeld! The former editor of Vogue Paris who has since created her own response to fashion magazines with her highly acclaimed CR Fashion Book.

I had the chance to photograph Carine a couple of time (here and there) and I have to admit that I really like her… Yes I am a fan! Fan of the work she accomplished over the years, of her unique vision, but also fan of her simplicity and kindness, more accessible and warmer than Anna Wintour she represents the French cool at its best. This new film by Fabien Constant is undoubtedly an unofficial response to the September Issue.

Maria Host wearing Valentine Avoh

My two passions, clothes making and photography, reunited in a series of pictures, thanks to the beautiful and adorable Maria Host, who accepted to model one of my dress while I took her picture.

I met Maria during a cocktail party and it became evident to me that her poise and elegance would make her the perfect model for my designs… Born in Milan to an Indonesian mother and a Serbian – German father she possess the kind of international beauty which cannot really be identified but instantly mesmerize you… Besides, she is also very friendly and interesting to talk to!

Antara

The beauty about taking pictures of strangers in the streets, is that it gives you the opportunity to travel without actually taking a plane! Like when I met Antara Motiwala… The beautiful fashion editor of GQ India, also known for her natural elegance and poise.

I remember being on my bike in between shows, during the last Milan men fashion week, when I spotted her across the street in Via Montenapoleone. Disregarding the traffic, I cycled into her direction and asked if I could take her picture. She kindly accepted, after which we talked a little about her and she told me that her stunning and original outfit was from a young talented Indian designer called Nishka Lulla. As you know, I am really into traditional/ethnic clothing so I was really happy to discover a new brand which I would have probably never heard off otherwise. A few days later, I went onto Nishka’s website and fell in love with most of the pieces from her collection, especially the blue version of what Antara is wearing and this white dress.

Caroline Issa’s Skirt

Today I feel like wearing a little skirt like the one of Caroline Issa. I remember how cool and casual she looked in her little black skirt which swung at each of her steps. She looked like a little doll and yet so feminine. To complete her look she wore beautiful orange red silk tank top and some simple black ballerinas.

I found out to be an extremely precious quality the ability to dress like doll while maintaining your womanhood… Some of us quickly look 10 years younger when dressing as such. Obviously Carolina doesn’t. And then, there is her hair… How does she make them so shiny? Don’t worry, I will investigate this for you… In the meantime, I’ll leave you with her beautiful smile!

The Sport Jersey

Happy Saturday Mesdemoiselles! I have always loved wearing sport jersey, but for an unknown reason I haven’t been doing so in the last few years. Probably because I didn’t really know how to style them anymore. I remember, while studying my fashion degree in London, basing a whole project on sport jerseys so much I loved them. But the truth is that worn wrongly, they can easily make you look like a teenager or worst, like an extra from an hip hop video (The Nelly effect;-).

Fortunately, it is not the case here! This lovely Mademoiselle is looking pretty trendy and elegant with her blue jersey and matching navy see-through skirt. She decided to contrast her outfit’s blue palette with some colorful accessories and espadrilles.

My Summer Reading List

I don’t know about you, but during the holidays, there is nothing I love more than sitting on the beach while reading a good book! Well obviously, I also LOVE to eat, but this isn’t the subject of today’s post.

For as long as I can remember, I always loved to read. When I was around 10 years old, I used to pretend that I was sleeping when I was actually hiding under the cover reading a book until the early hours (with my little pocket flashlight). And until today, my passion for reading has never left me. Although I went from reading Judy Blume to slightly more adult books.

In a Flower Power Mood

I don’t know why, but I have been in a flower power mood recently… It all started with this skirt I made for myself a few months ago… At first it was just innocent, but then… It evolved into a flower frenzy where everything floral was catching my attention…!

Any excuse was good to justify my love for flowers… For example, when I had to prepare my photo shoot it became evident that I needed flower crowns… I mean, I could not have shoot my wedding dresses without them… No sooner said and I was on my way to Leroy Merlin. I bought myself a bouquet of artificial flower, dusted off my old glue gun and got crafty… 4 flower crowns later, I might have left a lot of leafs on the floor and glue on my finger, but I was satisfied! (The official pictures will be published soon but here is  a little Instagram preview just for you  😉

Kenza

Last week, while collaborating on a project with Elena Bragheri, we got to talk about men shirts and how there was nothing more beautiful than a woman wearing a masculine shirt… As a matter of fact, this is exactly what I thought when seeing Kenza for the first time..!

Aside from her utterly cute outfit, I immediately got drawn to her beautiful and light printed shirt… After a quick chat with the lovely girl, I learned that not only was she just starting her own label of men shirt but she was actually wearing one of her own model that day. I also learned that her shirts were carefully hand crafted in Morocco, where she is from.
